WELCOME BACK!

Here we are again. New course, new students, new subjects, new teachers... This year English is going to be a little bit more difficult. You'll have to think and work in English all the time, so here you have an essential tool: A DICTIONARY! (That thing you never use). When you are on-line use it and also use the one you have on your shelf!

ART

This last unit of the course we're learning more about ART, especially paintings. In class we only had time to see some important paintings in history, but there are many more. If you like this topic, as I do, click on the links below to know more. You can use them to help with your composition as well.
Many of the paintings that we saw in class are in Museums in Madrid, as "Guernica" (Reina Sofia), "The Meninas" (Prado) and many more. Why not visiting them this summer? Check the website for timetables and prices.

BOOK DAY - 23rd APRIL

On 23rd April Book Day is celebrated. This year we're going to do an activity about the American author Mark Twain.
Mark Twain is one of America's most important writers of all the times. He became very popular with two of his books: "The adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "The adventures of Tom Sawyer". He was even called the "Father of American Literature."
He lived in Connecticut, north east of the USA, in a big house that nowadays is a museum you can visit. As we can't go there (too expensive!) you can visit it on-line and learn things about the author, the house, his books, the museum, etc.
Now, go to this LINK and answer the questions below:
- If you wanted to visit the museum, how much would it cost you? When would you be able to visit it? (Hours and days).
- When and where was Mark Twain born?
- Mark Twain was a pseudonym, which was his real name?
- Did he have any children?
- What happened to Mark Twain in 1870?
- When was "The adventures of Tom Sawyer" published?
- Go to "The House" and click on "Virtual Tour". How many rooms and floors are there? Choose one room and describe the picture you see.
- Go to "The Mark Twain Store" and choose an object you would like to buy, say why.
